Hello Reader! Do you even remember this newsletter? Happy to see my emails again? I’m offering you a gift just for being here. Don’t remember? That’s ok. I have taken a rather long break. Enjoy this update and then decide if you want a gift from me too. I honestly don’t know if I’m "back" to writing yet. Why did I pause in the first place? In 2025, I decided pursuing my goals was taking too much effort. I’d been pushing through some tough years: 9 emergency room visits, 2 new babies, a stalker, fraud, Covid. It’s a pretty intense list. Frankly, I’m not sure how to write about it yet. This is a newsletter about taxes and money for founders and leaders. How do you write about business or money, when what’s actually taking all your attention is “real life?” All I know now is this: my life may have been intense, and yet my company continued to grow. I choose everyday to go back to work. I have given birth, twice, and then gone back to work. I have, quite literally, beaten death, and then gone back to work. Yet after several years of this, I finally had to make a choice. Do I stop working so hard on my goals and finally give myself a break? Or do I keep putting in all this effort? I chose neither. I decided I would start achieving more, because I would spend less effort. It’s been a complete life and business redesign. My biggest takeaway so far has been how much the basics matter. Take money. I would have been forced to quit years ago without my financial foundations. When things got really tough, I could step away because profit, investing, and growing my family wealth each year mostly handles itself with the financial systems I’ve built. (Don’t feel this way about your own money? If you’re a founder in the “messy middle” while running a $500K - $5M company, then consider a free clarity call with me. I’m happy to share what could help you feel more stable.) Health is another basic. I’m now a person who moves and nourishes her body every day, and I’ve noticed something surprising. The days I skip are the days that feel hard. Not because those days are just harder and therefore healthy things were skipped, but because not moving taking care of my body makes everything else FEEL harder. I’m all about the ROI, and the reward to effort ratio here is staggering. This is true for creativity too. I’m faster, smarter, and more energized when I fuel my brain as much as my body, so I’m now someone who reads everyday too. It’s this last habit I’m most grateful for. Through books, I've discovered everything else I’ve needed to survive this season of life. Books like: Rich Relationships which taught me how to ask for and receive help in a way that brings everyone joy and more money. Expecting Better which taught me how to read medical studies and statistics and feel confident in my health decisions as a parent. Time Freedom which gave me a practical blueprint to redesign my life with more freedom and flexibility now, without waiting for the next financial milestone. Without books like these, my life would be harder. I needed the wisdom of others. I’m cleaning out of my office, and I want to give others the joy I experienced while reading these books. I’ve curated the best titles I read last year. If you tell me what topics interest you and your address, I will mail you an excellent nonfiction book. Hello Reader, I winced when a potential client recently said: “𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘐’𝘮 𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘭, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺.” 𝗧𝗮𝘅 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿/𝗼𝗿. Either you swallow a big tax bill every year and stay safely within the lines. Or you chase aggressive strategies that promise big savings but come with real risk. I fall firmly on the side of 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹. Growing a business is risky enough. Shady tax planning rarely earns more than the stress is worth. 𝗕𝘂𝘁...
Hello Reader, I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I've become a bit of a gossip lately. I blame the podcast, 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗽. If you don’t know it: it’s a podcast where people anonymously submit low-stakes, real-life gossip — coworker drama, weird friend dynamics, social faux pas — and the hosts retell the story with smart guests who dissect it like it’s a sport. Nothing “important” is discussed at all. Yet it really works (and it's one of the few podcasts I still listen to religiously) because: –...
Hello Reader, A good idea can change the world. But vision only creates lasting impact when it’s supported by financial structure. That’s why I love financial reporting. A clear Money Map turns unformed potential into concrete, measurable action. And a strong financial diagnostic is often the fastest way to remove hidden obstacles to smooth, consistent growth. In my work with founders, I see incredible vision every day. The challenge is rarely the idea. Rather, it's building the financial...
